 2012 YEARLING SALES UPDATE

Although nobody seems to have told the weather that it’s summer time the Team here at Easdon Lodge certainly know that it’s the ‘Silly Season’!  With the summer racing carnivals in full swing we’re proud to say that we’ve had winners at both Ellerslie and Trentham and we’re looking forward to a few more to boot.  There’s a definite and positive vibe within the racing community at the moment as a result of the thrilling racing, the anticipation of the approaching yearling sales and the long awaited increases in Stakes money which commence on the 1st March so it’s the perfect opportunity to get involved.

Next week will see the major players in the global thoroughbred industry competing at Karaka to secure a dream of their own, all seeing the potential of greatness and imaging the spoils that may lie ahead and we will be no different.  This year we will be buying yearlings at all levels for both syndication and private ownership.  Lance has been on the road inspecting the drafts since December and has begun to make his shortlists.  With over 1400 yearlings on offer there will definitely be something for everyone and syndication is easiest way to enjoy the fun without having to do any of the work, so let us do it all for you.

It’s been an exciting time for our syndicates of late with Viadana (Towkay ex Yeah Nah owned by the Easdon Lodge No 4 Racing Syndicate) winning at both Ellerslie and Trentham and Medici (Encosta de Lago ex Giovanna Owned by the Easdon Lodge No 1 Stallion Syndicate) winning at both Awapuni and Counties.  Viadana, who cost just $25,000 as a yearling, has won 2 on the trot now and from a total of 10 career starts has been placed and weighed in each time and her win at Trentham on the first day of the carnival was just amazing and a huge thrill for everyone involved.  Medici, the high priced sales topper, has finally hit his straps and has put in some exciting performances of late and has shown a swift turn of foot on the firm tracks.  Looking forward we’re very excited about watching last year’s purchase Volcano (Volksraad ex Toohottohandle), have his first race-day start in a couple of weeks time at Te Rapa, he is a lovely type and will just keep improving with age.  Heza Rebel is back in work and will be back on the track in the early autumn.  However it’s not just our syndicate purchases that have been making headlines, we’ve also enjoyed success this summer with Beauty Sparkle who we purchased for $55,000.  After winning 2 from 2 he is now waiting to head up to Hong Kong to compete in the biggest arena of them all!  Essouira (Johar ex Haze) provided owners Terry Needham and Sue Whittaker with a cracking win at Te Rapa in the New Year whilst they were here on their annual vacation from the UK.

If you are interested in getting involved in racehorse ownership give us a call.  We’ve selected horses from both ends of the budget scale which have gone on to become winners such as Sirrio who cost $15,000 and went on to finish 6th in the Karaka Millions before going to Hong Kong.  Come and find us at the sales, or give us a call we’ll be there throughout the sale and we’d be more than happy to help you out.  Updates will also be published on this website to keep you informed about our selections.

THIS SYNDICATE HAS BEEN FULLY SUBSCRIBED

Shares are available within the newly formed Heights Fillies Syndicate to lease and race Excuse Moi (’07 No Excuse Needed ex Fairy Heights) and Cristal Heights (’08 O’Reilly ex Champagne Heights).  Bill and Jane Ewen, both well known Matamata identities who have been associated with the Heights Family for a number of successful years, wanted to set up The Heights Fillies Syndicate so that they could share the fun and excitement that they have experienced racing this family with their close friends and hopefully make a few new friendships along the way.

Excuse Moi – ’07 No Excuse Needed filly ex Fairy Heights (Tristrams Heritage ex Anaheim)

No Excuse Needed will finish the 2009/10 racing season 3rd on the stakes winners premiership and his crop include the 2009/2010 Filly of the Year and NZB Filly of the Year DAFFODIL and the multiple stakes winner VINCENT MANGANO.  Stable companion MERCURY MISTRESS (also trained by Lance) enjoyed success as a 3 year old winning the NZB Southern Filly of the Year title recently.

Out of Fairy Heights, Excuse Moi is a full sister to Cosmic Heights whose race record to date includes 1 win and 7 placings from 11 starts and a half sister to Rising Heights whose consistent race record reads 7 wins and 15 placings from 35 starts.  This filly is also closely related to SKYHEIGHTS who was a multiple Group One winner in Australia.

To date Excuse Moi has had two trials finishing 4th and 3rd respectively and one race day start on an unsuitably heavy track which was purely for educational purposes before going out for a spell.  She is currently in pre-training with Kit Davidson and Michael Morton-Beetham before returning to the stable to be prepared for a spring campaign.

Cristal Heights – ’08 O’Reilly filly ex Champagne Heights (Centaine ex Fairy Heights)

By O’Reilly, a prolific and multiple award winning sire of horses such as FELLOWSHIP, JOEY MASSINO and stable Group winning fillies IRLANDA and KIRRA SANDO’Reilly’s outstanding 71% return on runners to winner’s statistics speak for themselves.  Champagne Heights, herself a daughter of Fairy Heights, raced 22 times for a win and a 7 placings.  She is a half sister to both Cosmic Heights and Rising Heights and closely related to the multiple Australian Group One winner SKYHEIGHTS

Cristal Heights has been broken in by Kit Davidson and Michael Morton-Beetham and is due back into work in August before having her first experience of the racing stable in the early spring.

SYNDICATE DETAILS

The Heights Fillies Syndicate will operate with a 3 year lease (with optional right of renewal) so there is no large, initial outlay involved as there would be if you purchased a horse for example.  The everyday management of the syndicate will be carried out by Emma Williams, who will be responsible for the financial and administration duties.  The syndicate will have its own bank account into which go all monthly automatic payments and any stakes earnings.  In accordance with the syndicate agreement all expenses incurred by both fillies will be paid from this account and at the end of their racing careers (or periodically depending upon the level of stakes earnings) any remaining funds will be divided proportionately between the share holders.  The syndicate (the Lessees of the fillies) will not be required to share any percentage of stakes earned to the Lessor (the owner of the fillies).
