About Us

Lance Noble

Lance started his career in 1985 working for Jim Gibbs and then co-trainer Roger James, whilst enrolled in the Equine Cadet Scheme he quickly progressed to the position of Stable Foreman within two years.

In 1989 Lance took some time out from the New Zealand racing scene and took the opportunity to travel overseas where he worked for the renowned trainer Ian Balding looking after Selkirk amongst others.

In 1991, upon returning home Lance was fortunate to be offered a position as training partner rejoining his former mentor Jim Gibbs. They enjoyed exceptional successes with group and stakes performers such as Tidal Light, Maurine, Field Dancer and Mickeys Town just to mention a few.

In 1994 Lance gained a further twelve months training experience in Malaysia and was then charged with the responsibility of travelling on to England to collect and accompany the stallion Vialli back to New Zealand.

During the 1996/97 season Lance teamed up with Roger James and the pair were awarded NRM Trainers of the Year following the success of horses such as Cronus, Roysyn, Zonda and Thriller.

In 1998 Lance began training in his own right, firstly at the Hopkins Road property before expanding and moving to the current Easdon Lodge location adjacent to the Matamata Racing Club.

Always keen to promote the industry Lance is a committee member at Matamata Racing Club and was President of the Northern Branch of the Trainer’s Association for 6 years.

His passion for racing has also seen him involved in many lobbying groups all aimed at the developing the New Zealand racing industry through the likes of education and the fair tax group.

Outside of racing Lance enjoys the odd game of golf and will do anything to watch a game of cricket but he is probably mostly known for his unfailing support of the Wellington Hurricanes Super 14 rugby team.

Leigh Noble

Leigh began riding ponies when she was 5 years old and has been obsessed with anything ‘horsey’ ever since.

Originating from Northern Ireland, Leigh comes from a predominantly National Hunt background and gained several years experience working in racing and sales preparation.

Leigh gained several industry related qualifications and in 2001 was awarded the Tim Dunlop Memorial Scholarship after completing the National Stud (Newmarket) Stud Management Diploma Course with a Distinction.

Initially Leigh came to New Zealand to work for the Chitty family at Haunui Farm in Auckland with the intention of heading to Australia once her contract was completed however fate stepped in and the rest is history.

These days Leigh is kept busy running the office and the administration side of the business and in 2008 she took out her Syndicator’s Licence after enjoying successes with horses such as Geeza, Headsup and more recently Sirrio.

Leigh and Lance also have two little boys Connor and Robbie who are often to be seen on race days exploring the various on course bouncy castles!
